It is fascinating how different sadhana paths scattered across various traditions somehow end up aiming for the same peak, only the routes of attainment differ.
In many Sri Vidya lineages, for instance, the first step is Maha Ganapati mantra sadhana. It is usually introduced as a remover of obstacles and a stabilizing force, a gentle opening act before one is ready to walk on the subsequent mantra sadhanas.
But Maha Ganapati doesn’t just clear the path he builds it.
What looks like the entry gate is often the whole temple in disguise.
His Mantra of five Bījas (seed syllables) represent the Divine Couples: Vishnu–Lakshmi, Shiva–Parvati, Varaha–Bhudevi, Manmatha–Rati, and Pushti–Pushtipati.
On the surface, chanting it bestows the combined blessings of all these Devatas. But as one’s understanding and sadhana deepens, it becomes clear that these five Bījas also map to the five primary Chakras (excluding the Ajna and Sahasrara).
In other words, Maha Ganapati doesn’t just bless your life ,he rewires your energy system from the ground up.
Sometime ago I had a fascinating chat with a colleague who practices Vajrayāna Buddhism. Their foundational practice is Vajrasattva Sadhana, the Great Purifier.
Practitioners are given a hundred-syllable Mantra to be recited a hundred thousand times. Sounds intense, right? Yet its purpose mirrors Ganapati’s purification. It’s said to dissolve the five great defilements that veil truth itself.
Different paths, different Mantras, same wisdom: before you ascend, you must be cleansed.
The grandest temple cannot rise on an uncleared, filthy ground.
Even the Divine prefers a tidy workspace.
And just like Maha Ganapati Sadhana, it is considered both foundational and complete in itself.
Different paths, same wisdom: before the ascent comes purification. Before light, cleansing. Even the Divine prefers a tidy workspace.
So, if you ever feel the urge to “move on” from the basics, pause for a moment.
Sometimes the first Mantra you were given turns out to be the most essential one:
The key that quietly unlocks everything that follows.
If these words resonated, perhaps it’s time to return to your own beginnings where the simple becomes the sacred.
